American Girl NYC!

"

A few weeks ago Ben had a bit of the sniffles.  He wasn't contagious (or so we thought) but just wasn't up to snuff for a pool day or a trip to anywhere where he'd be running around.  So on the spur of the moment we took the kids on a surprise road trip to NYC!  Natalie had been dying to go to American Girl since she was old enough to SAY American Girl and since she could never narrow down a choice via the catalog we thought it would be super fun to visit the store.  After years of carting the big boys to football, wrestling, and lacrosse, and a host of other events we gave them no choice but to smile and go with it.

Sadly, not too may pictures upon arrival because AG brings out the little girl in mommies too!  I haven't admired a doll in years but suddenly I was too ready to explore than take pictures!  =)

Ben got a nice two plus hours of sleep in the car (our GPS took us down broadway during dinnertime so it was almost a THREE HOUR NAP).  And was quite pleased to see they even make dolls that look a bit like him!

And then it was just after we started exploring we noticed Ben seemed a little sicker than we thought...no longer did we think it was just allergies......so we started to speed shop (more like a sinus infection had kicked in).  A woman noticed us sort of rushing Natalie along (and of course her very bored brothers) and offered to help us as she was a personal shopper for the store.

She quickly showed us the historical girls and we realized Natalie was dead set on getting a doll that "looked like her."  Which of course must stem for her rather futile desire for a sister...

We quickly browsed the options and I laid down my case for why a historical doll is better (there are so many books to check out in the library to tell the tales of your historical girl).  However, there is always birthdays and Christmas and room for the doll to have a friend (ok my inner child is taking over).

And daddy instantly thought this one looked somewhat like his little girl (but of course not near as pretty).

                                                                  Natalie AGREED!

The personal shopper and I did not agree with Natalie and daddy.......

But in the end it was Natalie's decision.  Um, in the end it is her doll.

                                                                          It was decided......

and like a magician this lady navigated us through the front of the lines and had us out the door and on our way to dinner before Ben let out another sneeze!

Such a fun experience!  And as you can see the doll looks a bit like Natalie if Natalie had a very dark  summer tan.  =)  And its been several weeks and not a moment goes by where Natalie does not know the location of this doll...as in two feet away from her.  And I'm still conspiring on how and when we will get a historical one that has a plethora of books associated with it.  =)

Mike and I took Michaela up this summer and she brought along her American girl doll named Emily. We had such a good time and she was so so excited. We drove up to Staten Island and took the ferry over. Then rode the subway to the American girl store. We spent three hours there. Michaela picked out an outfit and a pet for Emily. THen she had her picture taken there at the studio. We then walked to Central Park and saw the statue of Balto the hero dog. We had a blast. It was so nice having just Michaela time. She loved everything and never once complained. It was a great day. We will take Madelin the summer she is five too. It was so much fun.
